Located in San Antonio in Bexar County, Alamo Heights is one of the city’s most well-known and coveted neighborhoods. With tree-lined streets and a centralized location, many residents love the close-knit community and suburban feel of Alamo Heights, which is why it’s such a popular neighborhood.

Alamo Heights is one of the oldest neighborhoods in San Antonio, dating back to as early as 1836, according to the Texas State Historical Association. One of the earliest settlers to the area was George Brackenridge, the name behind Brackenridge Park, who built a mansion in the neighborhood and later named it Alamo Heights. Today, Alamo Heights has its own school district, fire and EMS department, and police force.

Minutes from Downtown San Antonio, Alamo Heights offers easy access to many of San Antonio’s most popular attractions. Spend the day seeing the animals at the San Antonio Zoo, taking a walk through Brackenridge Park, or exploring the beauty of San Antonio at the San Antonio Botanical Garden. Interested in art? The McNay Art Museum is a quick drive away, where you can take in all of the beautiful paintings, sculptures, and more.

A few golf courses and country clubs are nearby if that is more your speed. The Quarry Golf Course is a local favorite that’s also recognized around the country for its unique setting and challenging holes. After a round of golf, enjoy a meal or Happy Hour at The Quarry’s Cementville Grille, one of San Antonio’s best-hidden restaurants. Become a member of the San Antonio Country Club and enjoy an 18-hole championship golf course, a 6,500 state-of-the-art fitness center, an outdoor Olympic swimming pool, multiple tennis courts, and more!

In addition to attractions, Alamo Heights is also located near many restaurants, grocers, and stores. Cappy’s Restaurant, an “upscale, yet casual” San Antonio staple, is a great place to get the best seafood and steaks with an extensive wine list and craft cocktails. The Barbecue Station offers some of the best barbecue in South Texas with various traditional meats, fillings, fresh sides, and more! Nearby grocers and stores include H-E-B, Central Market, Whole Foods Market, Walmart Supercenter, and more.

Alamo Heights offers its own school district, Alamo Heights Independent School District, which includes six schools for young residents. Each of the schools are located in Alamo Heights, except Excel Academy, which is about 25 minutes away.
